Visitors marvel at the granite boulders dotted over the landscape and at the magnificent vistas glimpsed while driving along the quiet roads and tracks.
The towns and villages dotted throughout the region provide a great reason also to visit the area. Alexandra, Avenel, Euroa, Longwood, Strathbogie and Violet Town each boast their own great old pubs, beautiful gardens, art galleries, museums, antique shops, cafes and lovely old buildings.
Euroa’s Heritage Walk will give you insight into the history of the town and its old buildings. The district has long been noted for its fine-wool production, although its name is probably more familiar in relation to Australia’s most famous bushranger Ned Kelly.
The region has hosted the World Masters Games, is the venue for National and State rowing and canoeing titles and Heads of the River at the Nagambie Lakes complex and hosts the Australian Carriage Driving Classic at Longwood each year. Other major events taking place in the municipality are Wool Week, the World’s Longest Lunch, the Alexandra Truck and Ute Show over the Anzac weekend, the Alexandra & Euroa Agricultural Shows and the Euroa Rodeo.
Monthly community markets are held at Alexandra, Avenel, Mansfield, Yarck and Violet Town with picnic race meetings held regularly at Alexandra, Mansfield and Yea. For the sporting minded – visit one of the picturesque local golf courses in the area.
