“Uncle Roy Patterson’s cultural memoir On Taungurung Land reveals how Aboriginal adaptation to white settlement and the preservation of culture were not mutually exclusive. His final wish was to facilitate healing and growth for all Australians by sharing his distinctive and vibrant living culture, that has been handed down from generation to generation. The combination of generational Indigenous knowledge and historical research in this book recognises the value of Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) about local places. It aims to foster respect for Indigenous custodianship, establish mutual practices of care for Country and revitalise relationships to local places based upon First Nations perspectives and priorities.”
